Gia Lai Province Police Warn of Malicious YouTube Extension and Bank Phishing Scams

The police in Gia Lai province, Vietnam, issued an alert about a browser extension marketed as "Adblock for YouTube" that can embed malicious JavaScript, harvest browsing history, cookies and personal data, and redirect users to fraudulent sites. Users are advised to install extensions only from official browser stores, review permission requests, remove suspicious add‑ons, keep browsers and operating systems updated, run security software regularly, and enable two‑factor authentication on sensitive accounts.

Authorities also warned that fraudsters are sending SMS messages that appear to come from Techcombank, using look‑alike domains such as "techcombank.cfd/com.vn" or "tcb.lat/com.vn". The messages claim, for example, "[Ngân hàng Techcombank] Thông báo. Ưu đãi có thời hạn! 12. 500 điểm thưởng thẻ tín dụng của bạn hết hạn hôm nay. Nhận ngay phần thưởng độc quyền của bạn…" and include links to fake banking sites that request card numbers, CVV, expiry dates and OTP codes. The police urge the public not to click unknown links, never provide card or OTP information, and verify any bank communications directly through the official app or website.
