Vietnam’s Quảng Ninh honors fallen son Lưu Ngọc Đỗ at war memorial ceremony

On the evening of July 26, a ceremony was held at the Nghĩa trang Liệt sĩ Hà Tu in Quảng Ninh province to honor local war heroes. The event, organized by the provincial Youth Union, drew more than 500 participants, including provincial officials, veterans, youth volunteers and family members of the martyrs.

Đào Thị Ngỏ, a 95‑year‑old mother and 78‑year Communist Party member, recalled her eldest son Lưu Ngọc Đỗ, a class monitor who in 1971 wrote a blood‑signed enlistment letter. He died in August 1974 while fighting in the Quảng Nam‑Đà Nẵng front at the age of twenty. Veteran Phạm Đức Nhân, a former member of the 323rd Division, also spoke, saying, “I am very moved when the youth of Quảng Ninh always remember the great contributions of our heroes.”

The ceremony featured the lighting of hundreds of candles, flower offerings and prayers for the fallen, symbolising the continued reverence of newer generations for those who sacrificed their lives for Vietnam’s independence.
