Vietnam's SJC Gold Company Alerts Consumers to Fake Facebook Diamond Buyback Pages
Two Facebook accounts named "SJC Hồ Chí Minh" and "SJC Hà Nội" bearing blue verification ticks posted notices claiming that SJC would buy back diamonds within 30 days. The messages offered two options: conversion of assets into SJC gold reserves after appraisal, or cash payments of 50% after one day, 30% after 15 days and the remaining 20% after 30 days, with online registration and daily limits on applications. The accounts listed a wide range of diamonds and jewelry from brands such as SJC, PNJ and Kim Lý.
SJC (the Company of Gold, Silver and Gemstones) confirmed the pages are counterfeit, stating the company has no official Facebook presence, no online registration service, and has not launched any diamond purchase programme. The firm warned consumers to avoid providing personal data or transacting via the fake pages and to conduct any buying or selling only at its physical branches. The warning follows heightened public attention after a recent "diamond crisis" at rival jeweler PNJ and a police investigation into diamond smuggling in Thanh Hóa province.
