Vietnam's State Bank warns public against counterfeit foreign currency
The State Bank of Vietnam, Region 1 branch, issued an urgent advisory urging individuals and businesses to conduct cash foreign‑exchange transactions only through authorized commercial banks, foreign bank branches, or licensed exchange agents. It warned that private dealings or exchanges with unregistered entities expose participants to counterfeit currency risks and legal violations under Decree No. 340/2025 on administrative penalties for monetary offenses. The bank instructed anyone suspecting counterfeit notes to stop using them, report to Hanoi police or the nearest credit institution, and cooperate with investigations to protect personal assets, monetary security, and market stability.
