Vietnam's Vice Premier Pham Thi Thanh Tra launches 2026‑2030 child online safety program

On 29 May in Hanoi, Vice Premier Pham Thi Thanh Tra inaugurated the government‑led programme “Protect and Support Children’s Development in the Online Environment 2026‑2030”, coordinated by the Ministry of Public Security and the Vietnam Cyber Security Association. She warned that children face harmful content, online threats, scams and personal‑data abuse, and stressed that family involvement is the strongest safeguard. Six priority actions were outlined: full implementation of child‑protection policies across ministries and localities, stronger state management and specialised forces, extensive use of ICT for early warning and prevention, fostering digital skills and self‑protection in schools, urging technology firms and media to act responsibly, and reinforcing the role of families.

Parallel expert commentary highlighted a surge in severe child‑abuse cases, most occurring within families. PGS TS Đỗ Cảnh Thìn noted that economic pressure, changing family structures and parental stress contribute to violence, with many perpetrators being parents, stepparents or relatives. Data from the national child‑protection hotline 111 showed 46,111 calls in April 2026 – an increase of 9,519 from the previous month – and a 22 % rise in interventions, with roughly three‑quarters of incidents stemming from family members.
