Vietnam courts try former MediPhar executives over massive fake health product scandal

The Hanoi People's Court opened a multi‑day trial of 14 former executives of the MediPhar pharmaceutical group. Defendants, including former chairman Nguyễn Năng Mạnh, face charges of producing and selling 88 fake health supplements, serious violations of accounting regulations, and bribery.

Investigators say the scheme generated illegal profits of more than VND 539.8 billion, caused tax losses of around VND 305 billion and harmed public health. The trial, expected to last several weeks, will hear evidence on how the companies inflated product formulas, falsified certification documents and used bribes to secure approvals from the Food Safety Authority.

The case highlights widespread corruption in Vietnam's health‑product sector and the government’s effort to clamp down on large‑scale fraud that jeopardises consumer safety and deprives the state of revenue.
