Vietnam's Viettel rolls out home verification aid for elderly as regulator tightens subscriber data rules

Viettel in Ho Chi Minh City is expanding a programme that provides in‑home assistance for elderly customers to complete the mandatory subscriber information verification before stricter regulations under Circular 08 take effect. Over 30 % of unverified subscribers are seniors, who face health, mobility and digital‑skill barriers. Customers can call the toll‑free 1800 8098 line, request a visit, and receive help completing the verification, earning 10 000 Viettel++ points for the helper and VND 50 000 for the verified line. Viettel says the service aims to keep connections active, protect users from fraud and meet state requirements.

At the same time, Vietnamese authorities are accelerating the standardisation of subscriber data and warning of scams that impersonate police to misuse the VNeID electronic identity system. Parallel digital initiatives include online BIN code applications for banks, a planned auction of 77 short .vn domain names, and a push for faster nationwide digital infrastructure and data‑centre integration. Together, these measures seek to broaden digital inclusion, improve service safety and support Vietnam’s broader digital‑transformation agenda.
