Vietnam's VNeID App Adds Digital Vehicle Registration Certificates

From 8 June 2026 the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security will issue vehicle registration certificates (cà vẹt xe) as electronic documents on the VNeID and VNeTraffic applications. The digitized records are stored in a government‑managed database and can be presented to traffic police using a QR code on a smartphone, replacing the traditional paper certificate in many situations.

The rollout follows Circular 37/2026, which mandates electronic verification of registration data. Vehicle owners must log into VNeID, select “Wallet of documents,” request a new registration entry, and provide the required vehicle details. After data matching and approval, the electronic certificate can be shown on‑the‑spot during inspections. The change aims to cut paperwork, streamline registration and inspection processes, and support Vietnam’s broader digital‑government agenda.
