Vietnam's VNeID digital ID app adds fraud‑reporting tool and expands criminal record features

On 13 June, Vietnam’s electronic identity platform VNeID released version 2.2.8. The update adds a QR‑code scanner for citizen ID cards, a tracker for card issuance, and a new function that lets users report online fraud directly through the app. The upgrade is part of a broader effort to turn VNeID into a single‑stop “digital wallet” for personal documents, online public services, ticket purchases and more, with over 50 utilities already available.

A separate draft regulation, slated to take effect on 1 July 2026, will display criminal‑record information (phiếu lý lịch tư pháp) on VNeID. The system will generate QR codes and six‑digit authentication codes to verify records, requiring a Level‑2 electronic identity account for individuals. Authorities and organisations can also access these records via the app, improving the verification process for legal and business purposes.
