Viettel pushes biometric subscriber verification in Phu Tho ahead of June 15 deadline
Vietnam's telecom operator Viettel is accelerating a nationwide subscriber‑information verification campaign mandated by Circular 08/2026, which took effect on 15 April. The deadline for completing the process is 15 June, and the company aims to clean the national database by confirming that each SIM is registered to its rightful owner. In Phu Tho province, where about 80 % of residents use Vietviet services, the task is especially challenging. Viettel teams have reduced the number of unverified subscribers from several million to a few hundred thousand by deploying staff to remote villages, using biometric facial scans linked to citizens’ identity cards, and coordinating with local police and community leaders.
Field workers report that reaching elderly people, ethnic‑minority households and residents of mountainous hamlets such as Mai Chau requires “door‑to‑door” visits at unconventional hours, sometimes late at night, and even multiple trips to the same household. Nguyen Thanh Công, deputy director of personal customers at Viettel Phu Tho, warned, “Only a few days remain until the 15 June deadline, and the vulnerable customers are still hard to reach.” Staff also face logistical hurdles such as long distances, poor road conditions and occasional resistance from locals wary of fraud, but they continue to adapt schedules and use local languages to complete the biometric checks.
