Viettel wins spectrum tender to enter Dominican Republic telecom market

Viettel Global Investment (VGI), a subsidiary of Vietnam’s Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group, has won a spectrum tender to become the fourth mobile operator in the Dominican Republic.

Following a resolution by the Dominican telecommunications regulator, Indotel, the company was awarded a 20-year concession for 240 MHz of spectrum. This includes the 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, and C-Band 3.6 GHz bands. Viettel plans to utilize this spectrum to provide 4G and 5G mobile and public telecommunications services.

Industry reports indicate an approved investment plan of approximately US$560 million for the market entry. While the spectrum award is a significant regulatory milestone, it does not constitute a commercial launch, and a specific start date for services has not yet been announced.
