View Royal and Victoria candidates emerge for upcoming municipal elections

Political activity is increasing in the Greater Victoria region ahead of the upcoming municipal elections. In View Royal, former mayor David Screech has announced his candidacy for the mayoralty. Screech, who served as mayor from 2014 to 2022 and as a councillor for 12 years, aims to focus on stabilizing tax increases and reconstituting the town’s citizen advisory committees to provide objective community feedback.

In Victoria, the new municipal party Victoria for All has announced its first slate of endorsements. The group is supporting incumbent councillor Susan Kim for re-election and a position as Capital Regional District director, Peter Rose Gibbs for city council, and Maiya Beech for Greater Victoria School District 61 trustee. The organization describes itself as a working-class, democratic, and socialist electoral group that prioritizes housing as a human right.
