View Royal police issue driving bans after impaired seat swap

West Shore RCMP officers issued driving bans to two individuals in View Royal after a vehicle was reported driving erratically on August 8. A witness observed a black Toyota Corolla swerving and striking a median on Island Highway before the driver and a female passenger switched seats.

Upon locating the vehicle, police stopped a 26-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman. Both showed signs of alcohol impairment. The man received a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition after failing a breath test, while the woman received a three-day prohibition following a warning. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Cpl. Nancy Saggar stated that switching seats does not negate the danger of impaired driving. West Shore RCMP reported that 108 impaired drivers have been removed from the road so far in 2026.
