Vigevano neighbor arrested for murder and arson
Police in Vigevano, Italy, have arrested a neighbor, Francesco Manfrin, for the murder of 60-year-old Roberto Iabichella. While the death initially appeared to be an accident or a suicide following a house fire on August 23, investigators have reconstructed a different scenario.
Forensic examinations revealed that Iabichella had suffered severe facial injuries and clear signs of strangulation. Authorities believe Manfrin strangled the victim and subsequently set fire to the apartment to destroy evidence. To further the deception, the suspect allegedly used the victim's phone to send farewell messages to make the death appear self-inflicted.
The investigation shifted toward the neighbor following the analysis of local surveillance footage and telephone records. Investigators suggest the motive may be linked to a dispute over a woman known to both men.
