Viggiano to unveil monuments for Leonardo De Lorenzo and Victor Salvi
The town of Viggiano is expanding its ‘Grand Tour della Musica’ project with the unveiling of two new bronze monuments dedicated to local musical figures Leonardo De Lorenzo and Victor Salvi. The ceremony is scheduled for October 2, 2026, in Viale Vittorio Emanuele.
The project aims to transform Viggiano into an open-air cultural and artistic route, connecting the town’s long-standing musical traditions—specifically those involving the harp and instrument making—with universal musical history. The new monuments join existing works dedicated to composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, and Ennio Morricone.
Leonardo De Lorenzo, a flutist, composer, and educator, achieved international recognition after emigrating to the United States, where he worked with prestigious institutions like the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Victor Salvi is also recognized as one of the town’s most illustrious sons, representing the global reach of Viggiano’s musical heritage.
