Vigo and Estepona launch summer beach rescue services

The city of Vigo has activated a beach rescue and surveillance service for the summer season, covering thirteen municipal beaches from 15 June to 15 September. The operation, funded with €850,000, employs more than 130 professionals, including 70 lifeguards, police officers, and medical staff. Services include accident prevention, water rescues, first‑aid, an on‑site ambulance, rapid‑response vehicle, 15 defibrillators, and a program to assist beachgoers with reduced mobility. Operating hours vary by beach, with full‑day coverage during July and August.

In the Andalusian town of Estepona, a similar service has been started for the same period, staffing 47 personnel to monitor five popular beaches. The team provides 8‑hour daily coverage, handling surveillance, rescue, and evacuation, and is equipped with an ambulance, a rescue boat, and medical supplies such as defibrillators. Assisted‑bathing facilities for people with mobility challenges are also offered. Hours differ between weekdays and weekends, but the service runs continuously until mid‑September.
