Vigo beach kiosks propose limited summer concert schedule

After a suspension of beach concerts that began on 9 July, the owners of Vigo’s seaside kiosks (chiringuitos) have submitted a formal proposal to the city council to resume live music for the remainder of the summer. The plan, called “Ruta Musical,” limits performances to two small‑format shows per day, scheduled between 19:00 and 22:00, and rotates the events among the various kiosks to avoid concentration in any one location. Organisers commit to covering all associated costs – artist fees, technical equipment, and SGAE copyright royalties – and pledge to keep sound levels moderate, direct speakers away from residential areas, and clean the terraces immediately after each show. The proposal aims to boost local culture and tourism while respecting residents’ desire for quieter beaches. The Vigo City Council and the regional Xunta de Galicia will now review the plan and decide whether to grant the necessary permits.

The initiative also emphasizes promotion of local talent, offering a platform for regional musicians within a regulated and orderly framework.
