Vigo BNG criticizes low municipal budget execution

The Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG) has raised alarms during the Vigo municipal plenary session regarding the low execution rate of the city's budget. According to BNG spokesperson Xabier P. Igrexas, the administration of Abel Caballero has only executed 43% of the total budget through the third quarter of 2026.

A significant concern was raised regarding municipal investments. Of the 70.5 million euros budgeted for investments, only 13.5 million euros had been executed by September, representing approximately 19% of the total. The BNG warned that if current trends continue, the city could end the year with roughly 180 million euros unspent.

The opposition also highlighted delays in other sectors, noting that social policy spending stood at 52% execution, while public services, culture, sports, and education saw execution rates of 43% and 41%, respectively. Igrexas criticized the administration for prioritizing public announcements and propaganda over the actual implementation of projects and the material needs of citizens.
