Vigo City Council debates infrastructure funding and general strike support

The Vigo City Council held a plenary session addressing two major political motions. First, the council approved a motion from the PSOE urging the Diputación de Pontevedra to double its annual economic allocation for infrastructure agreements with Vigo, increasing the amount from 5 million to 10 million euros for the 2027 budget.

Mayor Abel Caballero criticized the current provincial government, alleging a refusal to pay due funds and questioning proposed changes to existing infrastructure agreements. He noted that previous administrations had maintained consistent funding levels.

In a separate motion, the council approved support for the general strike scheduled for November 11, a move presented by the BNG and supported by the PSOE. The motion, which cited rising costs of living and housing shortages, specifically supports the strike organized by the CIG. The BNG also called for the Xunta and the central government to implement measures such as declaring stressed housing zones and creating public housing stocks. The PP opposed the motion, criticizing the left-wing parties for hypocrisy.
