Vigo City Council lost 1.5 million euros in European funds
The local leadership of the People's Party (PP) in Vigo, led by Luisa Sánchez, has announced that the city council lost 1.5 million euros in European funds intended for the Bouzas Tourism Sustainability Plan. Out of the 2 million euros initially granted, only approximately 500,000 euros—about 25%—were executed within the required timeframe and according to established milestones.
Several specific projects failed to materialize due to the expiration of the deadline on June 30. These include the humanization of Calle Pazo (400,000 euros), landscape and environmental improvements for the Bouzas historic center and coastline (500,000 euros), the installation of informative mupis (85,000 euros), and the replacement of lighting with low-consumption systems (200,000 euros).
Sánchez criticized Mayor Abel Caballero’s administration for the failure to meet the necessary milestones, noting that projects like the Calle Pazo intervention will now likely have to be funded by municipal resources rather than European grants.
