Vigo Council addresses beach concert ban and greenlights new music school

The municipal government of Vigo (Concello) scheduled a meeting on Monday 20 July with operators of beachside concert venues ("chiringuitos") to discuss the recent prohibition on holding concerts on public maritime areas. Spokesperson Carlos López Font explained that permits must first be obtained from the Xunta de Galicia before the council can give final approval, citing regional law and safety criteria.

The council also approved the acquisition of two parcels near the Helios Cultural Center in Bembrive to build a new municipal music school and related facilities, valued at about €405,498. Mayor Abel Caballero announced that the expropriation will be processed by the Urban Planning Department and disclosed a €232 000 allocation to the local Federation of Popular Music Bands to fund 115 concerts across programmes such as “Vigo, un mar de bandas”.
