Vigo Council to Approve Land Transfer for Future State Library

The municipal government of Vigo will give an initial approval next Tuesday to transfer a parcel on Calle Lalín to Spain's Ministry of Culture for the construction of the new State Library. The hand‑over requires a property‑registry certificate, a declaration from the municipal secretary confirming the land is municipal heritage, and a technical report on urban‑planning conditions. After a 20‑day public exposure period, the approval will be sent to the regional government and then to the national government for final sign‑off.

In the same session, mayor Abel Caballero announced that the city's Urban Planning Department will also endorse the creation of the municipal housing company EMVIGO. Seeded with €8.6 million from the council, EMVIGO will develop 200 new homes in Santa Cristina, 27 in Esturáns, and refurbish properties in designated regeneration zones, aiming to increase affordable housing and municipal rentals.
