Vigo faces red heat alert and infrastructure delays

Vigo is currently facing a severe heatwave, prompting health authorities to issue a red alert. Temperatures are expected to rise significantly, with a potential record high of 37.7 degrees Celsius on Monday, surpassing the previous August record set in 2018. Meteogalicia has issued warnings as temperatures approach these extremes, and Sergas has elevated the alert level due to public health risks based on historical mortality and temperature data.

In addition to the heat, the city is managing infrastructure and environmental concerns. Mayor Abel Caballero reported that the activation of the mechanical ramps in the Vigo Vertical project at Paseo de Granada has been delayed due to a defective part that must be replaced. The delay means the ramps will not be operational in time for the upcoming Cristo de la Victoria procession. Meanwhile, A Punta beach in Teis remains closed to swimmers due to the presence of E. Coli bacteria in the water.
