Vigo hosts emotional Cristo de la Victoria ceremony and tribute

On 2 August 2026 the Cofradía del Santísimo Cristo de la Victoria in Vigo carried out an emotional lowering of the Cristo de la Victoria statue from the basilica of Santa María. The event featured a floral tribute to longtime cofrade Manuel Sanjurjo Blein and drew a large crowd of faithful participants.

Later that day a pregón was delivered by Marora Martín‑Caloto, president of the cofradía. She thanked the archbishop, mayor Abel Caballero, Celta de Vigo officials such as Marián Mouriño, and highlighted the deep connection between the religious tradition and Galician cultural identity.
