Vigo housing group demands stressed market declaration

The Alianza pola Vivenda has called on Vigo Mayor Abel Caballero to reconsider declaring the city a stressed residential market zone. The organization is urging the local government to fulfill a municipal agreement passed in March 2024 to initiate the necessary procedures, noting that more than two years have passed without execution.

The group argues that such a declaration could provide rent relief, potentially saving tenants between 120 and 800 euros depending on the area. They point to the effectiveness of similar measures in cities like Barcelona and A Coruña, noting that rental prices in Vigo increased by nearly 10% in 2025. The Alianza also criticized current municipal alternatives, such as the ViveVigo program, as insufficient to address the severity of the housing situation.
