Vigo judge acquits National Police officer of minor injury charges

A judge in Vigo has acquitted a National Police officer of a minor crime of injury. The case involved an incident where the officer attempted to identify a complainant who refused to provide identification, leading to the individual being immobilized and handcuffed.

The court found that the injuries sustained by the complainant, which required a single medical intervention, were compatible with the mechanics of being handcuffed. The judge evaluated video evidence and officer testimony, which supported the claim that minimal force was used to ensure identification.

Legally, the court ruled that the officer's conduct was justified under Article 20.7 of the Penal Code, which covers acting in fulfillment of a duty or the legitimate exercise of a position. The ruling concluded that the officer met the necessary requirements of authority, necessity, and proportionality.
