Vigo launches support pact for autism families and expands English study scholarships

Mayor Abel Caballero announced that the Vigo council has approved a collaboration agreement with the Fundación Menela, providing €32,000 over four years to assist people with autism spectrum disorder and their families. The aim is to facilitate social integration and family reconciliation, and Caballero praised Menela’s work.

The council also signed a partnership with Fundamar, allocating €10,000 for the 2026 programme “Sereas, as mulleres do mar”, which will promote the role of women in the marine‑industry sector.

In addition, the city held information sessions for families and students about the “Vigo en Inglés” programme. A total of 1,015 scholarships will fund three‑week stays in the United Kingdom and Ireland, covering tuition, materials, homestay, activities and travel. The investment totals €3.284 million, at a cost of €3,235 per place, and Caballero noted that Vigo offers more English scholarships per capita than any other Spanish city.
