Vigo man accepts prison sentence for shopping center sexual assault
A man has accepted a one-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting a woman at the Vialia shopping center in Vigo. The incident occurred on the night of September 16, 2024.
According to the prosecution, the 35-year-old defendant followed a 28-year-old woman through the mall before cornering her in a restroom. The man reportedly broke into the restroom after the victim attempted to lock the door, where he proceeded to assault her. The perpetrator was subsequently detained by police after the victim alerted security.
In addition to the prison sentence, the defendant was ordered to pay a 180-euro fine and 800 euros in compensation to the victim. He also received a two-year disqualification from professions involving contact with minors and a three-year prohibition on contacting or approaching the victim. The prison sentence has been suspended for two years, contingent upon the defendant not reoffending and participating in a sexual education program.
