Vigo launches advanced water treatment plant as Spain expands multiple water infrastructure projects

Vigo inaugurated the O Casal water treatment plant, a 23‑million‑euro facility with a 132,000 m³ capacity that uses advanced micro‑ and ultrafiltration and has been recognised as one of Europe’s most modern plants.

In Castilla‑La Mancha, the new Los Yébenes wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) began testing in August; the 5.2‑million‑euro project will serve about 5,800 residents and replace a plant from 1989.

Tacoronte on Tenerife completed a water‑network upgrade funded with €181,160, installing 276 m and 384 m of new pipe to improve pressure for more than 2,000 households.

Municipalities in Galicia (Pontevedra, Vilaboa and Soutomaior) signed an agreement to build a new Arcade wastewater plant, budgeting roughly €17 million, with about 80 % financed by EU funds.

In Córdoba, the La Voluntad–La Risa rural aqueduct reached 42 % physical progress, backed by an investment of over 16,430 million pesos and slated to provide 5,120 L s⁻¹ to 2,563 inhabitants.

The water temperature in the Ría de Vigo hit a record 22.94 °C on 23 July, approaching 23 °C, the highest in the series dating to 2013.

Mexico’s García municipality secured water for irrigation of more than 200 ha through upgrades at Presa Icamole, addressing farmers’ concerns over storage loss.

Colombia’s Canal del Dique restoration entered its pre‑operational phase; the environmental impact study is 64‑65 % complete and 2.5 million m³ of sediment have been dredged.
