Vigo Piano Competition marks 10th anniversary with record entries

The International Piano Competition Cidade de Vigo celebrated its tenth anniversary, drawing a record 400 pianists from 77 countries. Founded by pianist Pablo Galdo, the event took place at the Conservatorio Superior de Vigo and opened with a concert featuring Jeremy Irons narrating Camille Saint‑Saëns' "The Carnival of the Animals" and a recital by Martha Argerich alongside Galdo.

The junior edition highlighted young talent: Teodor Vujanic won first prize in the infant category, Reuben Moisey received the Emerging Artist award and the Best International Talent prize, and finalist Prapti Rajguru also performed. Mayor Abel Caballero joined the musicians on stage, playing the piano for the first time during the "Piano na Rúa" program, which brings classical music to public streets and will remain open to the public until 14 August.
