Vigo plans Samil sports complex demolition by 2036
The Samil sports complex in Vigo has been assigned a demolition date as part of a long-term coastal regeneration project. Following negotiations between Mayor Abel Caballero and the Ministry for Ecological Transition, a 10-year moratorium has been secured, allowing the facilities to remain operational until 2036.
The project aims to reverse the environmental impact of 1970s construction by expanding the beach and restoring dunes. The municipal plan involves relocating current sports facilities, including football fields and tennis courts, to the A Balsa area in the Matamá parish. This new site is designated in the Municipal General Plan (PXOM) to host a large-scale sports complex featuring athletics tracks and various services.
