Vigo Police Chief warns of AI challenges to crime fighting
During a ceremony honoring the National Police Corps, the Chief Commissioner of Vigo-Redondela, Ramiro José Gómez, identified the unstoppable rise of artificial intelligence as a major challenge in the fight against crime and terrorism.
Gómez stated that the police force is preparing for both current and future threats, noting that AI is facilitating increasingly dangerous criminal activities. In addition to technological shifts, the commissioner emphasized the ongoing struggle against common crime, recidivism, and high-crime areas, highlighting the importance of cooperation with judges and prosecutors.
The event, held at the Afundación de Policarpo Sanz, included the presentation of nearly 40 medals to various ranks of the police force and was attended by local authorities, including the Mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero.
