Vigo police intercept illegal fishing via drone surveillance

The Vigo Local Police have intercepted several individuals for illegal fishing activities along the coast of Vigo, Spain, using drone surveillance to monitor the area.

On September 20, officers using the Fénix Drone Unit detected two divers at A Buraca beach near Cabo Estai. While both individuals held valid recreational underwater fishing licenses, the octopuses they had captured weighed 585 grams and 680 grams respectively, both of which are below the legally permitted minimum weight. The catches were seized and donated to a local social dining room.

On September 21, drone surveillance at Ríos de Fóra beach identified a 61-year-old man engaged in suspicious activity. The individual was observed moving sand and concealing items in his swimwear to avoid detection. Authorities recovered nearly 6 kilograms of illegally extracted bivalves from his possession. These bivalves were subsequently returned to the sea.
