Vigo political group rejects new municipal dog park project

The Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG) has formally rejected the municipal government of Vigo's plan to construct nine new dog parks. The political group, led locally by spokesperson Xabier P. Igrexas, has criticized the project as a model of “micro dog parks” that they have labeled as “dog pens.”

BNG is preparing a motion for reconsideration to halt the bidding process for the first project located in Barreiro. The party expressed concerns that the current design, which includes a project in the Lavadores parish estimated at 169,000 euros, will create social friction in areas where families and walkers currently coexist with pets.

Igrexas criticized the local administration under Mayor Abel Caballero for a lack of technical consultation with veterinary and ethology experts. The BNG argues for an integrated model of green spaces that promotes coexistence rather than the segregation of animals into enclosed areas.
