Vigo-Ponferrada train line reports over 50 disruptions in one month

The CGT railway union in Galicia has reported more than 50 service disruptions on the Vigo-Ponferrada line during the month of June. The frequent interruptions are attributed to mechanical failures in the S/470 series rolling stock used for medium-distance services on the Miño Corridor.

Due to these breakdowns, Renfe has been forced to provide alternative road transport, including buses and taxis, to complete journeys. Specifically, buses cover the section between Guillarei and Ponferrada, while taxis are utilized to transport passengers to and from Quereño and Sobradelo via O Barco de Valdeorras. Additionally, rail service between Guillarei and Vigo Guixar is currently suspended by ADIF for infrastructure improvements, requiring daily bus replacements.

The union has submitted formal complaints to Renfe's public service management in Galicia in both June and August, demanding urgent measures to improve the service. The line is critical for residents of several municipalities, including Ourense, Monforte, and Quiroga, as well as for passengers connecting to long-distance services to Santiago, Coruña, Zamora, and Madrid.
