Vigo reinstates traffic lights on Avenida de Madrid

Vigo officials have decided to reinstate traffic light regulation on Avenida de Madrid following a trial period with a provisional roundabout. After analyzing traffic projections and comparing the performance of both systems, municipal technicians concluded that returning to traffic lights is the most effective permanent solution.

Mayor Abel Caballero announced that the removal of the roundabout would begin in the early morning hours to ensure the new traffic light system is operational by 4:00 a.m. This decision is part of an ongoing project to transform the former highway into an urban avenue featuring a green median.

The mayor noted that the works are progressing rapidly and are expected to be completed on schedule. The final design for the entrance to the city will also include a new artistic installation intended to welcome and bid farewell to travelers.
