Vigo schools face enrollment decline due to birth rate crisis
School enrollment in Vigo is facing a significant decline due to the ongoing birth rate crisis. According to estimated data from the Consellería de Educación, approximately 34,710 students will begin the upcoming school year on September 9, representing a decrease of 870 students compared to the previous academic year.
The decline spans all educational levels, from Infant to Bachillerato. Primary Education has seen the most substantial drop, with enrollment falling from 14,445 to 14,020 students in just one year. Total enrollment in Infant and Primary education has fallen below 20,000 students for the second time in history. Secondary education is also affected, with an estimated 15,232 students, down 332 from the previous year.
