Vigo seeks new airline connections for Peinador Airport
The Vigo City Council has announced plans to attract new airlines and establish stable flight routes to boost tourism, congresses, and business activity at Peinador Airport. To achieve this, the local government has identified four priority destinations: London, Paris, Alicante, and Seville.
Tourism Councilor María del Carmen Lago will attend the Routes World 2026 aviation fair in Frankfurt to meet with low-cost and various other airlines regarding a forthcoming public tender. Mayor Abel Caballero confirmed that the municipality has guaranteed the necessary funding, which will be included in the 2027 budget.
Caballero criticized the regional government (Xunta de Galicia) and the Deputación de Pontevedra for their refusal to provide direct funding for airline recruitment, accusing them of promoting non-existent routes instead of securing actual connections.
