Vigo's Son e Mar Festival to honor 'A Movida Viguesa' music scene
The Son e Mar Festival in Vigo is hosting a special event titled ‘A Movida Viguesa’ on September 12. The program is designed to honor the local musical and cultural movement that established Vigo as a significant cultural reference in Spain during the 1980s and 1990s.
Scheduled to take place at the Peirao de Transatlánticos, the event features a lineup of artists directly linked to the original scene, including Golpes Bajos, Semen Up, Miguel Costas, Killer Barbies, and Stoned at Pompeii. Luisa Sánchez, vice president of the Pontevedra Provincial Council, presented the programming, emphasizing the importance of reclaiming the history of a generation of artists that connected the city to the national stage.
While the festival is promoted as a public cultural offering, some commentary has noted the heavy involvement of regional and provincial government branding, such as the Xunta and the Pontevedra Provincial Council, highlighting the use of public funds to support these large-scale musical celebrations.
