Vijay calls for protection of South Indian electoral representation
Chief Minister Vijay has faced scrutiny following a shift in his stance regarding electoral delimitation. During a Southern Zone Administrative Committee meeting led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Kovalam, Vijay stated that the proportion of representation for South Indian states must not change during the delimitation process.
He emphasized that states should not lose representation due to successful population control measures and called for a legal guarantee to maintain their current percentage of seats. This position marks a departure from a meeting held on August 8, where Vijay had led an all-party meeting advocating for maintaining the existing 543 member count without any changes to the number of constituencies.
