Tamil Nadu CM Vijay campaigns for Dharapuram and Madurantakam by-elections
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), are intensifying campaign efforts ahead of the October 6 assembly by-elections in Dharapuram and Madurantakam. The by-elections were triggered by the resignations of AIADMK MLAs P. Sathyabama and K. Maragatham Kumaravel, both of whom subsequently joined the TVK.
During rallies in Dharapuram, Vijay accused the AIADMK of being an indirect ally of the DMK, claiming the two parties share similar political interests. He emphasized that his government is focused on serving the people and eliminating corruption, highlighting initiatives such as free electricity for up to 200 units and the closure of liquor shops near schools.
In response, DMK leaders have criticized Vijay, with spokesperson TKS Elangovan alleging that the Chief Minister is acting on behalf of the BJP to attack the DMK. Meanwhile, VCK President Thol. Thirumavalavan explained the VCK's decision to join the TVK-led alliance, citing shared political principles.
As the election approaches, both the DMK and TVK are scheduled to hold major roadshows. DMK President MK Stalin is set to campaign in Dharapuram, while Vijay will hold a roadshow in Madurantakam. Polling will take place on October 6, with results expected on October 9.
