Vijayadashami celebrations to feature Shastra Pujan across Madhya Pradesh
Vijayadashami (Dussehra) will be celebrated on October 20, 2026, with various traditional ceremonies across India, particularly in Madhya Pradesh.
In Gwalior, the Siddhapeeth Shri Gangadas Ji will host a grand celebration featuring Shastra Pujan (weapon worship). This event holds historical significance related to the 1857 independence struggle, as weapons used by saints who fought alongside Rani Lakshmibai will be honored. The ceremony will include demonstrations of weapon handling by monks and the firing of an ancient cannon.
The Madhya Pradesh state government has organized official Shastra Pujan programs across multiple districts. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav is scheduled to perform the rituals in Indore, while various state ministers have been appointed as chief guests for ceremonies in other districts. In areas without ministerial presence, local collectors and superintendents of police will lead the events.
Additionally, the day includes the tradition of vehicle worship (Vahan Puja) to pray for safe travels and prosperity. According to local almanacs, the auspicious timing (Vijay Muhurat) for vehicle worship is expected to be between 2:06 PM and 2:51 PM.
