Vijayapura: Mother and five children found dead in Bhootanala Lake

A mother and her five children were found dead in Bhootanala Lake on the outskirts of Vijayapura, Karnataka, in what is being investigated as a suspected suicide.

The deceased have been identified as Shobha Jalageri and her children: Vidya, Suvarna, Gowdesh, Vikas, and Sanika. The family was from Toravi village in the Tikota taluk of Vijayapura district.

Police received reports of the bodies floating in the lake on Wednesday morning. Following the discovery, police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel recovered the bodies and shifted them for post-mortem examination.

An investigation revealed that a missing persons complaint had been filed on August 24 by Shobha’s husband, Bheemaraya, after the family left home following a domestic dispute. Preliminary findings suggest Shobha had expressed intentions to end her life and leave the house after a quarrel. Authorities are currently examining all possible angles to determine whether the deaths were a suicide or the result of a crime.
