Vikas Dubey death certificate issued six years after encounter

A death certificate has finally been issued for Vikas Dubey, the primary accused in the Bikru incident, 2,256 days after his death. Dubey was killed in a police encounter on July 10, 2020, while being transported from Ujjain to Kanpur.

The issuance of the certificate was delayed for approximately six years due to a clerical error in the post-mortem documents, where his father's name was incorrectly recorded as Rajkumar Dubey instead of Ramkumar Dubey. This discrepancy prevented the formal processing of his death in official records.

To resolve the issue, Dubey's wife, Richa Dubey, filed a writ petition in the Allahabad High Court. She noted that the lack of official documentation prevented the family from accessing insurance benefits and managing property assets. Following the court's intervention and an inquiry by the health department, the error was rectified and the certificate was issued.
