Viking Therapeutics Beats Q2 Earnings Estimates, Highlights Progress on Obesity Drug VK2735

Viking Therapeutics reported second‑quarter earnings of a loss of $1.10 per share, beating analysts' expectations of a $1.21 loss by $0.11. The company said its VK2735 obesity program remains on track, with the VANQUISH Phase III trials fully enrolled and a maintenance‑dosing study slated for release later this quarter. An oral‑tablet Phase III program is planned to start in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Viking also announced the addition of VK3019, a dual amylin and calcitonin‑receptor agonist now in a Phase I trial, and outlined an expanded cash balance of $502 million as of June 30. Shares fell modestly after the report, trading around $33.40.

The earnings release underscored higher R&D spending, which pushed the quarterly net loss to $128.1 million, while the balance sheet is expected to fund operations through 2028.
