Roman Days festival in Mokro, Bosnia attracts thousands of visitors
The two‑day "Rimski dani u Mokrom" festival opened on 1 August near Široki Brijeg in Mokro, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Over 50 themed zones offer interactive workshops, historic reenactments and a food market that serves dishes prepared from authentic Roman recipes.
A centerpiece of the event is a 200‑square‑metre Roman fort and a gladiator arena. In addition to members of the Diocletian legion from Split, professional gladiators from the Bulgarian association Ludus Traex performed staged combats. Visitors can also try falconry, basket‑weaving, stone‑sculpting under the guidance of sculptor Josip Ivešić, and archery.
Family‑focused activities include wooden carousels, craft workshops and more than 30 ancient games. Evening programmes feature fireworks and performances that celebrate the Illyrian heritage of the region. Organisers encourage attendance before 18:00 to avoid crowds, as the festival draws large numbers of locals and tourists alike.
