Vikram Solar to begin production at 9 GW TOPCon cell plant in December
Vikram Solar Ltd has announced that its 9 GW n-type TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility in Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu, is on track to produce its first cells in December 2026. The facility, located at the SIPCOT Industrial Park, will be commissioned in phases and is designed to supply high-efficiency cells for the company’s own module production and for various Indian government programs, including PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM.
The Gangaikondan site is part of an integrated manufacturing roadmap. Following the inauguration of a 6 GW module plant in August 2026, the company plans to develop a 9 GW ingot and wafer facility by fiscal year 2029. This integration aims to shorten supply cycles, improve quality control, and reduce logistics costs by co-locating ingot, wafer, cell, and module production on a single 200-acre campus.
In related industry developments, Gujarat-based startup Celloraa Energy has appointed former Vikram Solar executive Anil Bhadauria as its new CEO. Celloraa Energy is currently developing a 1.2 GW TOPCon solar cell facility in India, utilizing technology and equipment from German and Chinese providers, with plans to eventually expand capacity to 2.4 GW.
