Viktor Hovland Wins Travelers Championship in Monday Playoff over Scottie Scheffler
The 2026 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut was delayed by rain and darkness on Sunday, forcing the final round to finish after dark. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Norway’s Viktor Hovland completed 72 holes tied at 21‑under‑par, triggering a sudden‑death playoff scheduled for Monday morning on the 18th hole.
In the first extra hole Hovland made a short birdie putt while Scheffler’s attempt from inside nine feet rolled past the cup. Hovland’s birdie secured his eighth PGA Tour victory and his first of the season, earning a $3.6 million winner’s share from the tournament’s $20 million purse. Scheffler, seeking his second win of the year and the 21st of his career, finished runner‑up.
The event featured a strong field, with Collin Morikawa posting a 61 to finish third, Matt Fitzpatrick fourth, and U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark tied for fifth. The playoff marked the first Monday finish for the Travelers Championship since the 2025 Players Championship.
