Viktor Orbán reportedly seeks roles in FIFA and UN

Following his electoral defeat in Hungary, former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is reportedly exploring new career paths within international organizations. According to investigative journalist Szabolcs Panyi, who cited discussions with diplomats and officials, Orbán may have held talks with FIFA leadership during his stay in the United States for the World Cup.

Potential roles include a high-ranking position within FIFA, such as vice president, which would allow him to maintain international influence through his passion for football. Alternatively, reports suggest he is interested in a position within the United Nations, specifically as Deputy Secretary-General. Such a role could provide significant legal protections and diplomatic immunity.

While the two paths differ in nature, they both offer a way to maintain the global status Orbán held during his 16-year tenure in Hungarian politics. The Fidesz party has strongly denied these reports, with spokesperson Bertalan Havasi labeling the claims as ‘fake news’.
