Viktor Orbán documentary explores political transformation

A new Hungarian-Canadian co-production documentary titled ‘Orbán and Me’ is being developed to examine the political transformation of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Directed by Réka Pigniczky, the film explores Orbán’s shift from a democratic reformer to an increasingly inaccessible leader.

The project was recently presented at the Cinelink Industry Days forum during the Sarajevo Film Festival. It was selected as one of seven projects for the ‘Docu Talents From the East’ program, organized by the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival.

Through the lens of the director’s attempts to interview Orbán during the 2026 Hungarian parliamentary elections and internal family debates, the film aims to investigate political polarization, the fragility of democracy, and the possibility of democratic renewal in Hungary. The documentary is produced by 56films, with a premiere scheduled for the first half of 2027.
